Product description

Asbestos-containing dark grey to brown in colour, mastic flexible Non Corrosive putty, typically used for fire-proofing and to prevent the entry of water into substations and cable pits, specifically in cable ducts and equipment hatches. It also seals cables inside conduits to prevent vermin or any other contamination entering conduits and damaging cables.


All NC or caulking compound/putty, unless it is damaged orvisibly deteriorating is classed as non friable asbestos.

Product identification

It is impossible to tell if the NC compound contains asbestos or not. Reliable identification can only beachieved by laboratory analysis. Non-asbestos NC compound looks exactly the same as that whichcontains asbestos. Includes cable penetration caulking in the form of mastic sealant.


Where the compound/putty has deteriorated and dried, a white dust can form on the surface. Such white dust is classed as friable and this presents a hazard if disturbed.

Known uses

Sealing cracks and holes around windows and other openings.substations and cable pits, specifically in cable ducts and equipment hatches. It also seals cables inside conduits.
