The Asbestos Products Database is Australia’s first comprehensive online database to assist homeowners, renovators, tradespeople and some industries to identify asbestos-containing materials so they can be managed safely. The database provides multiple search options for products commonly used in residential and commercial properties, in agriculture, automotive, industrial, plant and marine products and features over 60 different product types and more than 550 product photographs with descriptions and locations where these products might be found in homes built or renovated prior to 1990.

Asbestos-containing dark grey to brown in colour, mastic flexible Non Corrosive putty, typically used for fire-proofing and to prevent the entry of water into substations and cable pits, specifically in cable ducts and equipment hatches. It also seals cables inside conduits to prevent vermin or any other contamination entering conduits and damaging cables. All NC or caulking compound/putty, unless it is damaged orvisibly deteriorating is classed as non friable asbestos. |

It is impossible to tell if the NC compound contains asbestos or not. Reliable identification can only beachieved by laboratory analysis. Non-asbestos NC compound looks exactly the same as that whichcontains asbestos. Includes cable penetration caulking in the form of mastic sealant. Where the compound/putty has deteriorated and dried, a white dust can form on the surface. Such white dust is classed as friable and this presents a hazard if disturbed. |
